Water pipelines

A new era begins with BS EN 545:2010

Malaysia currently implements 'BS EN 545:2010 - Ductile Iron pipes, fittings, accessories and their joints for water pipelines - Requirements and test methods', as recommended by SPAN and SIRIM. The BS EN 545:2010 comes with greener features for sustainability as well as some enhanced quality performance.

The new manufacturing standard

INTRODUCTION OF PRESSURE CLASSES

MEASURES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

EMPHASIS ON DRINKING WATER DIRECTIVE 98/83/EC  COMPULSORY PERFORMANCE TESTS AND FPC

Simple correspondence between diameter and allowable operating pressure (PFA)

Savings on materials and energy, thus reducing the carbon foot print collectively

Water used in the mortar mix for the internal lining shall comply with Drinking Water Directive 98/83/EC (clause 4.5.3.1)

Conformity of pipes, joints and accessories by compulsory performance tests and factory production control (FPC) (clause 9.1)

Replacing thickness classes (K9 etc) with pressure classes

Extended lifespan with increased in metallic zinc coating thickness i.e. not less than 200g/m2 (clause 4.5.2.2)

Integrating couplings, flange adaptors, saddles for use with the Ductile Iron pipes and fittings

Preferred pressure classes C25, C30 and C40 (clause 8.1, table 16)

Introduction of alternative coatings for different application needs (annex D)

Additional pressure classes (clause 8.1, table 17) for specific requirements including C20, C50, C64 and C100
